rokusyo is a private, fully-renovated traditional machiya townhouse in the heart of Kanazawa’s temple district. Just a few steps from the Kenroku-en gardens, one of Japan’s most famous landscapes, rokusyo is located in a residential area just off the main tourist paths.

Rokusyo is a private, fully-renovated traditional machiya townhouse, not a hotel. You’ll have the entire house to yourself with no shared spaces or front desk.

The surroundings are beautifully atmospheric, lined with temples, traditional wooden houses and narrow lanes.

Rokusyo accommodates up to 5 guests across two bedrooms, ideal for couples, families, or small groups.

Rokusyo is a two-story wooden building dating from the Showa era. The home was renovated by two local Kanazawa architects, blending contemporary design with historic features.

There is a king-size western-style bed and three Japanese-style futons located on the second floor, accessed via a set of steep, traditional wooden stairs.

The ground floor offers a spacious area for dining and relaxation, along with a large contemporary bath that overlooks a private Japanese garden.

Rokusyo is located in Kanazawa, in the residential Higashi-Kenroku-machi area, surrounded by historic temples.

From Kanazawa Station, Rokusyo is about a 10-minute taxi ride or a 45-minute walk. It’s just a short stroll to Kenroku-en, one of Japan’s most celebrated landscape gardens.

Kanazawa is easily accessible by Shinkansen bullet train in around 2.5 hours from Tokyo, or express train and Shinkansen bullet train from Kyoto and Osaka.
